Vacation Coming!

My Facebook status yesterday night was, “Two more days of work plus one youth lock-in = leave on vacation on Saturday.” I got a couple likes on it. I mentioned it on here the other night as well. Besides I am so excited to get away. It’s been over two years since I’ve gotten out of town for 9 days in a row! We’re spending the first and last nights in Frankenmuth. I love it! As far as I’m concerned, it is the happiest place on earth! Then we are staying at the Petoskey KOA for the rest of the week. If you are looking for a place to camp, it is awesome! Disney World has the only equivalent or better campground that I’ve seen. It has activities, full hook-ups, food, pull-throughs. Do I sound like an advertisement? I don’t mean to sound like one. We are going to use it as a base to sightsee from: Harbor Springs, Cross Village, Mackinac Island, Petoskey, Charlevoix, Elk Rapids, Traverse City, Leland, the Sand Dunes. Have you ever visited any of these places? What’s your favorite memory? Any suggestions on favorite places to visit or eat? I’m always open to new ideas!

  1. Sounds like you will have lots of fun! I've never been to any of those places, but some of them are on my "future travel" list. Laura Welser (another Laura Ingalls Wilder fan) has mentioned how much she enjoys Frankenmuth on her blog. Hope to hear good things about your trip here on your blog when you return. Have fun and safe travels!

  2. I am so looking forward to it! I will try to blog as I go. I know Laura and I have talked about Frankenmuth a lot - we still seem to think that we can arrange dinner there sometime.

  3. Someday we will!
I haven't been to Mackinac Island in a few years, since my son was in the Honor Guard troop. We just drove the Sand Dunes. We couldn't get out at the actual sand dunes area since the dogs weren't allowed. I hadn't been there in several years either. Now, Traverse City...I've been there more recently because our convention is being held there next March and Jim and I are convention chairs. When we were there in January, we discovered a huge bookstore (I can't remember the name). It was great. Maybe a good rainy day place?
This summer's trip to LauraPalooza and our cabin is the longest I've ever been away from home. Our usual away trip is about four days.
    Enjoy your vacation!

  4. I'm excited some of my friends and I are going to meet a friend who just moved to Michigan in Frankenmuth in October. I know they are going to love it.
We took several 3 week vacations when I was in high school to drive across the country and my Dad could avoid working the first week after shut down when everything broke when it was started up again. Where I used to work, the accounting dept could only take one week off at a time. Then I moved to Internal Audit, was there ten years, and pointed that it was my Dad's 70th birthday trip, so that I could take the two weeks to go to Alaska. Sometime I plan to put use my journals to tell about that trip on here.
